TOOTH EXTRACTIONS

Why are extractions necessary?

One of the goals of pediatric dentistry is to help promote good oral health in your child for a lifetime. Part of this is ensuring that the primary teeth, or baby teeth, are taken care of until your child’s permanent smile fully develops. Sometimes, the primary teeth become so damaged that conventional treatments are ineffective and the tooth dies. In order to prevent the infection and decay from spreading, we may suggest a tooth extraction, or the complete removal of a tooth from its place in the gumline. This recommendation will only be made if absolutely necessary.

What happens following an extraction?

We understand the impact of losing a tooth on confidence and health, and we provide your family with multiple options to help your child through the healing process after a tooth has been lost. Generally, tooth extractions are simple and result in very little discomfort. Our team will also discuss your options to maintain the space created by tooth loss so your child’s permanent teeth continue to develop correctly.
